following at 4p.m. at Kim's house to celebrate his coming here to speak
for us. He will be speaking at 7pm, at Krinovitz Auditorium in Hawkins

in the global economy and the benefits of Fair Trade. Mr.
Zeledón is a coffee producer and co-op leader with experience

farming, and related issues. Fair Trade Coffee will be provided!
Bring your mugs! At 2p.m. Friday we will be having yet another
round of bike maintenance at the ADK building. Saturday April

4/1/04
The Fossil Fools day celebration went extremely well we met at the
Angell College Center Amite Plaza at noon and painted bikes for our
community bike program as Harold, James, and Ian spoke about the
importance of sustainability & Bush's energy plan at the press
conference on Channel 5. We also passed out info on
sustainability, biodiesel/wind, and Bush's energy plan along with
origami windmills and the Greenpeace newspapers as people took
shots at the SUV pinata.
Instead
of having a meeting we went as a group to see Celebration Free Jazz at
the Coffee Kat to preview them for Earth week and revelled over
the success of our Fossil Fools day celebration.
3/25/04
We went as a group instead of having a meeting to see the movie about
the untold secrets of the war in Iraq.
3/18/04
Final
touches were made for the Fossil Fools day celebration on April
1st. Tabling volunteers were also confirmed
3/11/04
Fossil fools day planning.
3/4/04
Fossil fools day and Earth week planning.
2/26/04
Further planning for Earth week.
2/19/04
We are going to be having Nicaraguan Fair Trade Coffee Farmer, Cesar
Zeledon speak April 15th at 7pm, at Krinovitz Auditorium in Hawkins
Hall. Arrangements for his coming were made. We also began
planning for the rest of earth week.
2/12/04
We finally voted to have the guest
speaker for Earth Week and got the
money to do so. El Pueblo is also going to do a forum on their
heritage on the same night or the night after. We further discussed the shirts
including the company and the rough prices. We will be leaving
campus for the SEAC Northeastern Climate Conference at 1 p.m. to be at
Harvard at 7:45 p.m. Please bring a sleeping bag, since we will
be staying in the dorms or other student housing. The cost for
attending is on a sliding scale, hopefully James can get it totally
waived in registering us as a group. Transportation is being
covered by college vans and food is going to be provided. We have
decided upon the subcommittees and they are as follows:
*Finance
*Public Relations (P.R.)
*Events
*Recycling
*Gardening
*Fair Trade
*Sustainability Alliance
*Alternative Energy
We have also decided that if members have an intiative that they feel
strongly about that they can follow up on it and come to us with a
developed plan.
Ian also approached the group on whether or not we would be interested
in recycling batteries on campus. Our theme for Earth Week is going to
be Alternative Energy. The idea of a bike program in which people
donate bikes and they will be fixed up with a plaque showing the
College's ownership was proposed as an idea for where part of the money
will go. Whoever borrows a bike will have to sign a log before and
after using the bike for the day. Maintenance will be done by a
student run program perhaps it will be made into a few workstudy
jobs. Another idea for a place for the money to go towards
getting alternative modes of energy unto campus such as biodiesel and
windmills, etc. Perhaps we will be better informed as to how to
do this after attending the Northeastern Climate Conference.
Three locations have been proposed for the Earth Day benefit concert:
1. The Farmer's Market
2. The field near the Naked Turtle
3. By the monuement again
We will research the details and discuss them further at the next
meeting.
Kathy Cantwell is also going to be holding a Lip Balm workshop at 10
a.m. on either Saturday or Sunday for more info call her at 561-6191.
On April 30th Students for Direct Democracy is going to be holding a
Bash Bush Bash please come and speak out about Bush!
2/5/04
We discussed hoodies and shirts. Jeff Cocrane spoke about the New
Land Trust, Project help, getting college credit for working on
projects there and holding events there, how he is holding a
Traditional Environmental and Medicinal Teachings with taoism and
buddism in the mix, and about the Red Hummingbird Foundation. The
North Country Co-Op is having a coffee shop and an open mic night Feb
28th at 7:30.
1/30/04
At our meeting last night there was sign up for those wanting to go to
the next SEAC Northeast
Climate Conference
at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. For those of you who missed the
meeting and would like to go please email the group or go to the next
meeting. We are going to try to get a college van to go
down there with.
We also discussed plans for a speaker during Earth Week and the
formation of a subcommittee that will plan all of Earth Week's events
including our annual Earth Day Benefit Concert. In an attempt to
find the best way to address the plethora of things that we as
group would like to concentrate more on we have opted to form several
subgroups of which plans for will be discussed at the next
meeting. If you have any ideas that you think might need to be
further addressed by a subcommittee please feel free to bring
them to the next meeting. We also discussed the need for
fundraising to be done ahead of time for the Earth Week and to fund
composting, more recycling bins and signs for the bins to be placed
around campus, and all the other things we have been meaning to do
around campus. We need more ideas besides hoodies and a bake
sale. Please come to the next meeting with ideas for fundraising.
