While it is well documented that Kent had a difficult time remaining faithful to his wives, and may have been an absent father, he was very much connected to the ideals of the land, home, and family. Home seems to have grounded him and he attempted to create the “ideal” home environment wherever he landed. His studying of architecture at Columbia University supported much of the work he did the rest of his life. His skills as a draftsman are evident in the architectural studies found in the collection.
