One of Rockwell Kentís favorite subjects was himself. His face and form appear in hundreds of his works. An examination of these self-images illustrates his life, his loves, and his psychological state more accurately than his autobiography. Through the eyes of Hogarth, Jr. in My Better Self (as pictured in retrospect by Hogarth, Jr.) as a young man setting out to embrace the world to Happy Birthday to Me!, a portrait of a man coming to grips with aging, to a penitent man in Itís Me O Lord, Kent was happy to use his own image to tell us where he was at, at any particular point in his life.
