52. Makonde mask, Tanzania, wood and human hair, 14" (36 cm)
  This form of helmet mask, with its naturalistic features, is called Lipiko. The scarification and other attributes (lip plug, for example) indicate the sex of the mask. Often times decorated with human hair, these masks are still in use today.
