Meeting in Ice
Engraving, Bequest of Sally Kent Gorton, P52000.400.25

The end of one of the great drifts, whose sinuous lines, beginning from “Frame” plotted to our station on ice more breaks on the map at the pole. After Papanisk, epic was Drave (Dreyf) Ledokola “Georgy Sedov” which was stayed almost for three years in the ice and was carried through a great way. When the drift finished, the ship was withdrawn out of the heavy ice among polar night by powerful ice-breaker “Sibir” (Siberia). Here they met. Spotlight-the first greetings of the ships are at night.
