Big Blue Boats, 2009, oil on canvas, 38 x 52Ē
|The joy behind my art-making lies within color. I really strive to find a composition where the colors tug at my senses. Iíve come to realize that once Iíve found a swatch that attracts my eye, all the other formal and conceptual elements fall into place. Sometimes finding the harmony between color and composition is a challenge, and it will take the duration of my life as a painter to achieve. I am committed and excited about this endeavor. Right now, I enjoy brassy colors; earthy, dirty colors- -that are often found by the sea or desert. The spaces I paint are often isolated, lonely and natural in their beauty. I aim to use direct, observed color in my work rather than synthetic systems of chroma. And although for now Iíve decided to use them to portray their most literal connections, Iíll continue to enjoy finding new color for my painting and for myself as a maturing artist. |
