Small Mission, 2000|
Oil on linen - 20 x 20 inches
Collection of Andrés Duran
This painting has the precious colour and quality of a jewel. Kenmor's distinct and personal handling of such a normally aggressive colour renders it uniquely serene, peaceful, and transcendent. The movement of paint across the surface invites contemplation and reverie. It has the luscious and sensuous quality of a ripe tropical fruit.
Sonmor considers himself a figurative painter and, in his large body of work, he makes reference to most of the traditions of European art history. In these works we see confirmation of his interest in not only Abstract Expressionism but he also makes reference to the extended European interest in Still Life subjects and, in particular, the works of the Flemish masters.
