Tom Dean

Tom Dean, born in 1947, settled in Montreal in the late 1960s, where he studied visual arts at Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University). After completing his bachelor's degree in 1970, he became a founding member of the avant-garde art centre Véhicule Art Inc. and a well-known figure in the alternative scene in Montreal. Throughout his career, he has produced works in several media including texts, video, sculpture and print, and gained a reputation for his elaborate multidisciplinary performances. He was selected to represent Canada at the 48th Biennale de Venise and his contribution "The Whole Catastrophe", was critically acclaimed and documented in a publication by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
