Collection Of The Artist
Like many young artists, Demers helped to support himself as a teaching assistant and also as a studio assistant to artist Peter Krausz, who is also included in this exhibition.

Demers' interest in the industrial landscape is a distinctive one and he brings a real understanding of the site to us - the grime, the effluence and what even suggests the toxic waste that are the by-products of so much 20th century productivity. Unlike the Modern artists before him, who celebrated and idealized industry, Demers' subjects rise above us like ominous bastions of power in the face of which we are helpless. At the same time, their ghostly appearance suggests their own transitory and ephemeral state and perhaps anticipates their passing.
