Standing Figure #12, 2000|
Acrylic on panel - 60 x 40 inches
Collection of Mr. Joey Basmaji
Sophie Jodoin was born in Montréal, Québec, in 1965. She received her BFA degree from Concordia University in 1988 and went on to study anatomy and pathology at the new York Academy of Art and at the University of Montréal.
Ms. Jodoin has been the subject of a number of solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions. She has received many awards and grants and has been the subject of numerous articles and essays in both scholarly and popular publications.
Her paintings have a deeply spiritual and mystical quality. The elongated lonely subjects in her paintings have arms, which are almost too long for their bodies and, in this chosen anatomically exaggerated style, are reminiscent of the works of Giacometti.
