This exhibition in the Burke Gallery is a selection made by the Museum Director, Edward R. Brohel, from acquisitions during these past 30 years. It is also a statement of the aesthetic values of the University and indicative of some of the Museum Without Walls installations about campus.

This exhibition is comprised of 100 images on paper by over 80 artists from 125 years of western art - 1850 through 1975, a time which comprises one of the most creative and changing periods in the society and culture of the west.

This exhibition is a culmination of work by Plattsburgh State Senior Art Students. A visual essay, which is an annual feature of the Art Museum, gives Studio and Art History majors the opportunity to exhibit and summarize their work.

IRAQ and KATRINA
Kent Gallery Atrium, Feinberg Library October 20, 2006 – January 7, 2007 EXTENDED TO MAY 13, 2007
The war in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina, two of the most significant events in recent history, are the subject of an exhibition of photographs that will go on display Friday, Oct. 20, in Feinberg Library at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh.
The collection of 25 large-format photographs, which was shot by Josh Williams, a photojournalist and 2002 Plattsburgh graduate, includes 15 from his Iraq War series and 10 from his Hurricane Katrina series. Williams will be on campus for the opening of the exhibit and will give a public lecture, ”Light Chaser,” at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center, in conjunction with Homecoming 2006 at SUNY Plattsburgh. The collection of these photos, which is located near the entrance to the Rockwell Kent Collection in Feinberg Library, will be on display from Friday, Oct. 20, through Jan. 7, 2007. Everyone is welcome to attend the lecture and exhibit.

Rockwell Kent Gallery June 11, 2005 - May 31, 2007 THIS EXHIBITION HAS BEEN EXTENDED

In Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Lakeside Press Edition of Moby Dick or The Whale by Herman Melville.
Rockwell Kent was originally approached in 1926 by R. R. Donnelley and Sons, Lakeside Press to do illustrations for Richard Henry Dana's Two Years Before the Mast. Kent rejected, but suggested Moby Dick instead. Kent was given complete freedom to design and illustrate the three-volume set. Extensive archival material exists at the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, The Rockwell Kent Papers, that document the project.

Transitions in the work of Peter Russom

This exhibition of paintings and drawings examines the work of Peter Russom, Associate Professor of Art at Plattsburgh State University. Emphasis is given to the work produced in 2006, the year of his sabbatical, in which he traveled to Italy. The pieces selected from 1990 forward demonstrate progressions in his paintings and drawings.

Traditionally drawing has been at the heart of visual expression—the initial apparition of the ideas—the final road map of the full conception. As this process disappeared in much of the avant-garde aesthetic, Kent remained a stalwart believer in the conceptual and expressionist power of the line.
This exhibition of 100 drawings from the Plattsburgh Collection of over 1,500 works helps explain these aspects of Kent’s work. It also makes apparent the level of maturity, which the Kent Collection is reaching at the Museum. |
Lecture: Jake Wien, noted Kent Scholar and Curator of the recent exhibition Rockwell Kent: The Mythic and the Modern will present a lecture Tuesday, September 5 at 7:00 PM in Yokum Hall, Rm. 200, in celebration of the exhibition 100 Drawings by Rockwell Kent. A reception will follow in the Burke Gallery. |
