Rockwell Kent in His Studio
|
The Rockwell Kent Gallery and Collection of the Plattsburgh State Art Museum, State University of New York, contains the most complete and balanced collection of Rockwell Kent's work in the United States. The gallery, located in the Feinberg Library, and the Feinberg Library Special Collections provide an excellent overview of the art, literary merit and political beliefs of Kent, and affords an unusual resource to scholars and students of twentieth century American art and of Rockwell Kent's growth as an artist and advocate for social justice.
The Rockwell Kent Gallery hosts a permanent exhibition of Kent's paintings,
prints, drawings, dinnerware, books, design art, photographs, bookplates, archives and personal items from his travels and life at Asgaard Farm near Ausable Forks, NY. Changing exhibitions of Kent's work are also shown in the gallery.
The gallery was designed by Romaldo Guirgola in an early post-modernist manner providing a unique exhibition space.
The gallery is located in the Feinberg Library on the campus of the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. It is a very short walk from the Myers Fine Arts Building which houses the Burke Gallery, Winkel Sculpture Courtyard, Myers Lobby Gallery and the Slatkin Study Room. The walk encompasses a good portion of the Sculpture Park and provides a stunning view from the elevated walkway.
The Rockwell Kent Gallery is open 7 days a week.
Hours: 12 noon until 4 P.M.
We are closed Legal Holidays and December 24 through January 1.
