| The Senior Show exhibits the wide variety of media and styles which are taught at Plattsburgh State University. More importantly, it exhibits the degree of accomplishment which our students attain.
Many art majors continue on to graduate study and careers in the professional art field. The Senior Show displays the foundation of those developments. The exhibition also shows art used as a tool for the growth and maturation of individuals. Hopefully, the students’ educational experience becomes a physical and spiritual tool, helping them to lead creative and rewarding lives on a healthy planet.
Individual attention and growth is the hallmark of the Plattsburgh Art Program. Each student, while learning their craft, is encouraged to define their own style - a long process, but one they best start early. There is no “school of Plattsburgh”. Each student has his/her own unique individuality.
The visual arts is a discipline through which evolutions take place. The Art Museum takes great pride in being an integral part of our student’s creative maturation and enthusiastically supports this annual Senior Art Exhibition.
Museum Studies & Management Minor
ART 472 - 473
The exhibition is presented by the students in ART 473, with direction from the Museum Director and Museum Staff. It is a unique venture which is, in addition to making a public show of artworks, a practical learning experience for all involved.
All art works are a result of instruction in the classes of the art department. Each participant passes two full faculty reviews for participation and chooses a mentor who, along with the Museum Director, guides the work in the Show. The participants, although a goodly number, decide on guidelines for the show, numbers, spaces used, installation principles, framing, theme and designate a design committee to act as agent with the design crew selected from the class.
Photography, composition and press releases are all produced by students in the class. So
finally the experience is one of individual empowerment and group cooperative effectiveness - a
