Nature is all around us. No matter how hard one tries, one can never escape it. The atmosphere nature offers is something everyone has in common.

I have always loved the outdoors. Working outside throughout the summers, I constantly found myself overwhelmed with beautiful landscapes. I feel a special connection with the simple horizon; a semi-straight line which everyone has a relation with.

The paintings I have been working on throughout my senior year at Plattsburgh State explore the simple horizon and the complex situations above and below this line. Color and line are the foundations of my work. My paintings stem from my drawings, which in turn are inspired by photographs. I will create a drawing with oil pastel and then move farther away from the original drawing and let my emotions take over. This process allows the paint to take over while the landscape becomes somewhat abstract.
