To many, the idea of a “museum” often exudes an image of silence, strict rules, and rigid display. Over time, the role of the museum has taken different forms and an interactive quality. Here at Plattsburgh State University, our “Museum Without Walls” invites the audience to explore the pieces in a free and open setting. The Senior Exhibition 2005 allows our own students to display their work in such an atmosphere.

As an English-Writing major, creativity is an important part of my life. Although I am not an artist myself, I have always appreciated the art world and taken an interest in art history. Becoming a museum minor gave me the chance to interact with the individual artists at Plattsburgh State, and allowed me to experience the museum world first hand.

Working on the Senior Exhibition 2005 helped me understand the true workings of a museum and the art that fills it. The experience of creating an atmosphere where one can appreciate the beauty of art, as well as the time and effort on the artists’ part, has made me find comfort in the museum world.

The Plattsburgh State University Museum is unique in its structure as well as its artists. The individual expression and images of each artist can be unified in this particular show, giving us an assortment of mediums and styles. In this unique show, the artists themselves are just as important as the work they display. Plattsburgh’s diversity and interest in the arts allows such an experience to be obtained.
